Transfer Credit and Policies

Credit for Undergraduate Coursework

The evaluation of domestic coursework taken at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university is completed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the time of admission to a baccalaureate degree program. Official college transcripts are required for each institution previously attended and are submitted with the admissions application to Illinois Tech. Courses may be acceptable for transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities provided they are comparable in scope and level to those offered at Illinois Tech and the grades are the equivalent of a “C” or higher. Grades of “C-“ are not acceptable for transferable course credit. A maximum of 68 transfer course credit hours from a two-year institution may be applicable to an Illinois Tech undergraduate degree program. There is no maximum number of hours of transfer credit from a four-year college; however, the final 45 semester hours of any undergraduate degree program must be completed in residence at Illinois Institute of Technology.  Credit will not be granted for experiential learning, career, and vocational courses. Courses identified as developmental or pre-college in level of study will not be evaluated and are not accepted as transferable course credits. Grades earned at other schools are used to determine the transferability of courses but are not included in the Illinois Tech cumulative GPA. Students cannot earn duplicate credit for repeated courses. Contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (transfer@iodrama.com) for general inquiries regarding the transfer of courses from any domestic college or university.

Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI)

Illinois Tech accepts coursework designated by the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a Statewide articulation agreement between participating institutions that facilitates the seamless transfer of general education courses and select major courses.
